Some days ago I started creating something I really love, something very easy to do and eco-friendly, as I am focusing now on creating eco-friendly party supplies mainly from materials that don't harm our planet or that are recycled. It is amazing how many beautiful ideas you can find to create great parties and reduce the waste.
From now on, I will try to introduce to you once per week a new eco-friendly project, mainly for party decorations, I will try to do it in a tutorial way so you can follow step by step and do it yourself and maybe I will sell some of the pieces I have created on my Etsy shop, just in case you would like to try to add one of them to your next party.
So today I will show you how to do a "Cupcake Jar" I kind of invented the name as I haven't seen anything similar on the web, it is very easy to do and it looks very cute. You can use this cupcake jars to store things like candies, buttons, marbles, crayons and even food. Why not storing food in your fridge in this glass jars instead of plastic containers? After all plastic contaminates much more.
Well here it goes, I hope you enjoy it, let me know if you try it.
Step 1. PREPARING THE JARS
Collect some glass jars you can recycle the empty jars from food that comes packed in those such as jelly, vegetables, mayonnaise, sauce, etc.
Leave the jars in cold water for 1 night, so the label can come out easily, if it doesn't come out easy, take a look at my last post DIY Magic Mix to Remove Labels from Jars. Wash the jars to make sure there is no smell left from the food it used to store, I recommend you to wash them in the dish washer at a high temperature so they become totally clean.
Step 2: TOOLS NEEDED
Scissors
Hot Glue Machine
Pillow Filling Material eg. Polyfil
1 cm wide white lace
Buttons
Fabric with small designs
Step 3. CUTTING
Cut a circle on the fabric of your choice, the circle should have approx 2 cm wider diameter.
Step 4. FILLING
Take a ball of filling of about 10 cm and place it on top of the lid. Cover the fill with the fabric circle you just cut and paste it to the lid on one point with a drop of glue. Paste the opposite side with another drop making sure that the filling stays inside. Paste the rest of the fabric to the lid and cut the exceeding fabric.
Step 5. DECORATING
Decorate with the white lace by pasting it on the side of the lid to cover the wrinkles of the fabric.Choose a button or similar object and paste it in the middle of the lace so it looks like the cherry of the cupcake.
You are finished now! You should get something like on the pictures below, I hope you enjoyed! Let me know how it went.
